Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE CLASSIFICATION: Performs highly skilled maintenance work in the operation, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment in the water or wastewater treatment plant, at various types of lift stations and/or at pump stations. ESSENTIAL TASKS: Repairs and services pipe fittings, electrical and electronic equipment including electric pumps, compensators, starters, electrical monitoring systems, controllers, switch gears, generators, boilers, thermostats, chemical feed systems and related equipment. Pulls and repair electric motors, pumps, mechanical sweep arms, rebuild gear boxes, motor controls. Operates plant, lift station and/or pumping stations, recording test results, temperatures, weather conditions; checks meters, recirculating pumps, drip taps, etc. and operates a wide variety of other related equipment. Acts as a working lead/supervisor over small groups or individuals on special repair and maintenance projects. Works and consults with and inspects work done by contractors involving construction, maintenance and/or rehabilitation of City water and/or wastewater facilities Troubleshoot and repairs PLC and scada systems. Uses voltmeter, ohmmeter and other electrical testing devices. Operates welding equipment; repairs broken or defective head and tail lights; replaces batteries. Operates backhoe, front-end loader, bobcat, power rodder, flusher truck, forklift, trencher, street broom water truck, grader, bulldozer, tractor and other light to medium construction equipment. Performs skilled service and maintenance as pipefitting, water taps, boring or pushing under roadways, hydrostatic testing, bacteriological sampling, brick and rock laying, cement work, painting and remodeling, plumbing, carpentry and mowing activities when not engaged in equipment operation. Makes emergency service calls. Performs other work as necessary and or as assigned. Must report to work on a regular and timely basis. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: The Plant Maintenance Mechanic III reports directly to the Pollution Control Plant Chief Operator and/or the Pollution Section Superintendent as assigned. The Plant Maintenance Mechanic III may supervise the Plant Maintenance Mechanic II, maintenance workers and/or plant operators or temporary workers as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Training and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Five years of skilled experience in maintenance and repair of heavy electromechanical equipment, motors and controls of types associated with water treatment plants and pump stations; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Good knowledge of tools and techniques commonly used in the repair and maintenance of industrial equipment similar to or used in a water or wastewater plant, pumping station and/or lift station; good knowledge of general plumbing, electrical, welding and equipment maintenance work; good knowledge of the hazards and related safety precautions of plant operations. Ability to read and interpret schematics; ability to lead others in special projects; ability to prepare written reports and purchase orders; ability to understand and influence others to achieve work objectives. Occasional reaching, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, twisting, handling and repetitive movements. Vision, speech, and hearing sufficient to perform essential tasks. Punctuality and reasonable attendance is essential. Must submit to drug screening and fitness to work physical exam. Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid Oklahoma Class A CDL with tanker endorsement. Must possess and maintain a class C Waterworks or Sewage works license or ability to obtain within nine (9) months from appointment. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work in this classification is both indoors and outdoors. Will travel to other City locations as required. Requires ability to work weekends, holidays and irregular hours. Requires ability to maintain on-call status. Will be subjected to confined spaces. Notice: This classification is a safety sensitive position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act and/or the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. As a safety sensitive classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
